You may recall from my last article that I was seeking other clubs to take sponsorship of the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP BULLS EYE EVENTS. The SOUTHPORT GUN CLUB has graciously requested to host the 2005, 2006 and 2007 STATE INDOOR EVENTS. Any club interested in the OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP is welcome to come forward!
I would like to know what clubs and facilities are available throughout our state. Please let me know what ranges, both indoor and outdoor, private clubs and public or semi-public facilities exist. A simple one-liner or phone call will do. I have received inquiries already asking what is available? in a particular area, and I’m only familiar with the usual suspects in SE Wisconsin. I would like to know what’s in place.
THANK YOU, JEFF GUSTAFSON, for arranging a dinner and evening of fellowship in honor of Jan VAN NESS on March 13th. Jan, a long standing competitor and promoter of shooting, has been battling illness for many months, and I was so happy to see the great turn-out and good natured ribbing that thanked Jan for his many years of work and good friendship. It was especially gratifying, given the stormy nature of the weather that evening.
Three indoor matches to report on for this issue: The INDOOR PISTOL SECTIONAL was held at Southport Gun Club, Kenosha on Jan 16, 17, & 18th. MATCH WINNER was Chris JOHNSON with an 874-34X; 1ST MASTER was Mike TYSKIEWICZ with an 860-29X. 1ST EXPERT Ashliegh GROSSHUESCH, 866-22X; 2ND EXPERT Phil KISSINGER, 865-36X; and 3RD EXPERT, Dennis BREIT, 860-17X. I think we’re in pretty good shape! 1ST SHARPSHOOTER Steve CLOSE, 821-13X; 2ND SHARPSHOOTER, Chris WILLIAMS, 819-13X; and 3rd SHARPSHOOTER Paul BAUMANN, 808-15X. The STATE INDOOR PISTOL CHAMPIONSHIP was held the weekend of April 3 and 4 at the Beloit Rifle Club. Our thanks to Jon NORTEMANN and his volunteers for staging another professional event. I want to especially recognize his most tenured volunteer, Mr. Claude WILLOUGHBY, who at the age of 98, is still assisting with stat work and helping his club in any other way possible. Congratulations, Claude, you’re a true inspiration. God love you! This match was a sell-out (though a no-show kept the relays from being completely filled), and reflected some truly admirable scores. The new STATE INDOOR CHAMP is Marcus CHANG! There’s a name that hasn’t been in that limelight before, but I’m sure happy for him, and hope that this is the first of many such titles. Marcus’ score was 1712-52X. His .22 aggregate was 861-27X and his Centerfire tallied an 851-25X.. It’s great to see that good fortune has smiled, and a review of the scores he posted for this match, reaffirms that consistency in all stages, will yield a good reward. The overall MATCH WINNER was Dave GLENN of Illinois, who fired a 1733-55X, and very close behind was Chris JOHNSON, also of Illinois, with a 1732-48X.. I should point out that CHANG competes in the EXPERT CLASS and that both GLENN and JOHNSON have been in the ethereal HIGH MASTER category for many years. The EXPERT class also produced match winner scores by Dennis BREIT of 191 (.22 slow fire); 294-9X (.22 GALLERY COURSE); and 879 (.22 AGGREGATE----WOW!!). D. GUTKNECHT had a match winning score of 195-7X for the centerfire rapid fire match. Steve TURNER, competing in the SHARPSHOOTER class fired a terrific Match winning centerfire slow fire match of 193! Other commendable mentions are as follows:
